Reclaimed Land Named as Hai Au Island

As a part of a joint celebration on the 118th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh on 19 May, the Tan Tao Group held the ground breaking cermony in the Hai Au Island building in Rach Gia city, Kien Giang province.

The ceremony, held by the Tan Tao Group, was attended by Mr. Truong Quoc Tuan, Party Secretary of Kien Giang province; Mr. Van Ha Phong, Vice-president of the Provincial Committee; Mr. Duong Quoc Xuan, President of the Long An Provincial Committee; Mr. Vu Van Hoa, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh city Export Processing Zone & Industrial Zone Authority, the President of the Rach Gia Municipal Committee; and other provincial officials, press agencies.

The Tan Tao Group was represented by its President Mr Thai Van Men; and Vice-presidents Mr Dang Quang Hanh and Mr Nguyeen Tuan Minh; in addition to numerous managerial staff and the employees of Tan Tao's affiliated companies.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Thai Van Men said that the Tan Tao Group had been in operation for 12 years in Ho Chi Minh City as a leading industrial park and urban infrastructure developer. In June 2007, the Group sought investment opportunities in Kien Giang province and received valuable support from the Provincial Authority and Committee, departments and localities. The Authority has approved several projects such as the Kien Luong Thermo Power Center with the capacity of 4,400 MW; the 3,000ha area Kien Luong Urban Zone; and the Land reclamation of Hai Au Island. Tan Tao Group has concentrated its efforts on successfully implementing the above mentioned projects and in so doing contributed to the development of Kien Giang province and the country.

Mr Thai Van Men added that “the Hai Au Island‘s infrastructure construction is designed to conform to the most advanced and proper standards in a way suited to high-end urban zones, services and resorts. The roads clinging to the curved shape of the island will deliver a beautiful and striking picture. Sewage will be directed to the waste water treatment factory before dumping to the sea. Colors and shapes of durable public works will create an prominent mark of a modern urban zone. The project is expected to be completed within 9 years.”

The Ceremony

Mr Men went on to affirm that the “Tao Tao Group has invested in Kien Giang province’s projects not only for yielding profits but also has actively taken part in social charity and favor return activities with compassionate hearts to the local community and society, which is regarded as an indispensable activity and a cultural characteristic of the Group toward sustainable development.”

Hai Au Island’s Land Reclamation Project 

The Hai Au Island project (An Hoa ward, Rach Gia city, Kien Giang province), part of the Kien Giang’s Land Reclamation urban zone plan, was ratified on the 1/2000 detailed construction plan according to the Provincial Committee‘s Decision 1161/QD-UBND dated May 9, 2008 on the 199.7 ha area. The investment capital in embankment, land fill and infrastructure construction is estimated to be about VND 1,488 billion, in which VND 650 billion is for embankment and VND 424 billion for land fill.

The Hai Au Island project, 172 to 2,100 meters away from the current embankment, belongs to the expanded Rach Gia Land Reclamation urban zone stretching from Lac Hong street to Phan Thi Rang street. The Island is designed in the shape of a seagull widening its wings toward the immense ocean. Upon completion, Rach Gia city will become a tourist attraction place with amenities for festivals, tourism, commercial services and high-end housing. The expected planning of the Island is as follows:

- Housing area: 53.69 ha, or 26.89 % in proportion

- Area of public services/works: 58.49 ha or 29.29% in proportion

- Area of green park, sports clubs: 33 ha or 16.52 % in proportion.

- Traffic area: 53.09 ha or 26.58% in proportion.

- Area of technical works: 1.43 ha or 0.72% in proportion

The estimated population of the island will be about 4,000 persons with an occupational rate of 136.9m2/ person.
