In the evening of October 29, Mdm. Dang Thi Hoang Yen, Chairwoman & CEO of Tan Tao Group and Co-Chair of ASEAN-BIS 2010, attended the banquet hosted by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his wife to welcome the 18 heads of the state and government to the ASEAN Leaders Summit 2010 and the associated high-ranking conferences in Hanoi.

The banquet was graced by the presence of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon; Secretary General of ASEAN, Surin Pitsuwan; ten heads of ASEAN countries, namely Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, Japan’s Prime Minister Naoto Kan, New Zealand’s Premier, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and the Foreign Ministers of Korea, India, Australia and Russia.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung warmly welcomed the heads of state and government leaders to the banquet, traditionally the highlight of every ASEAN Leaders Summit and the related conferences. The Vietnamese Prime Minister also stressed that despite the tight agenda of the Summit, the banquet was an opportune time for delegates to conduct friendly and open exchanges to enhance friendship and mutual understanding and trust. The Premier also believed that via the banquet and the music performances, the delegates would have new interesting perceptions of the diversified, yet distinct cultural characteristics of ASEAN countries and their citizens.

Vietnam was congratulated for its successful leadership as Chair of ASEAN, which heightened cooperation levels between Vietnam and ASEAN countries and its partners in recent years. During this period as Chair of ASEAN, Vietnam also contributed to the realization of the ASEAN Charter and promotion of intra-ASEAN cooperation whilst enhancing ASEAN’s role in the international arena. To highlight, the Government of Vietnam had successfully held the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM+) and had been invited as an observer to the meeting among China, Japan and the United States for resolving the tensions arising from the territorial disputes over Diaoyu/Senkaku islands recently.

This was the first time that Vietnam had hosted such an important meeting as the Chair of ASEAN, which also marked a significant advancement of ASEAN. The success of the ADMM+ is an important contribution of the Government of Vietnam for ensuring stability and peace in the region and in the world.
On this occasion Ms. Dang Thi Hoang Yen was honored with the opportunity to speak with the US Secretary of State, Her Excellency Hillary Clinton. The Secretary informed Ms. Yen that she had heard from the U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam about the successes, efforts and contributions of Tan Tao Group. She particularly commended Ms. Yen, who as Chairwoman of US-Vietnam Business Council, for enhancing the relations between the United States and Vietnam, especially in the areas of trade and economic cooperation, country development and raising the level of education in Vietnam. The US Secretary also affirmed that she would visit Tan Tao University during her future visit to Vietnam.
The banquet opened with a grand concert performance by the ASEAN orchestra, followed by Vietnam’s finest and traditional music performances presented by the Vietnam Pop Music Theater’s artistes namely “Beo Dat May Troi”, “Xe Chi Luon Kim”, Cup-Dance, New Rice celebration dance….

The banquet closed with the song “ASEAN – Eastern Sun” in celebration of the success of the 15th ASEAN Leaders Summit and its associated conferences.
