Message by Co-Chairwoman of ASEAN Business & Investment Summit, Chairwoman & CEO of Tan Tao Group – Vietnam, Ms. Dang Thi Hoang Yen

The world was going through a “Global Reset” and ASEAN managed through this economic storm very well. Even IMF latest estimates upgraded GDP of ASEAN region growth to 6.7%, an economic growth rate that many countries outside Asia will willingly trade places for.

Your Excellencies, Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,
On behalf of the ASEAN Member Countries and the ASEAN Business Investment Summit 2010 Organizing Committee, I like to wish all of you a very warm welcome to Hanoi. This year is a momentous occasion for us here in Vietnam as we just celebrated the 1000thMillennial anniversary for the city of Hanoi on Oct 10th, which also coincided with the Liberation Day of Hanoi. The celebration was to express our gratitude to the generations of Vietnamese in the past who contributed to the defense and development of Vietnam, and to pass this tradition to future generations.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung making a speech at the conference

Our thoughts and concerns for the future generations of Vietnamese is reflected in the same way ASEAN Distinguished Leaders and Member countries have gotten together to form an Economic Community by 2015. We have 600M people in ASEAN, with a total combined GDP of $1.5 trillion dollars across our 10 member countries. We have managed through a very difficult global financial crisis since the beginning of 2008 by growing 4.5 % and 1.5% in 2009.

Ms. Dang Thi Hoang Yen – Chairwoman of the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit 2010 (ASEAN BIS 2010).

The world was going through a “Global Reset” and ASEAN managed through this economic storm very well. Even IMF latest estimates upgraded GDP of ASEAN region growth to 6.7%, an economic growth rate that many countries outside Asia will willingly trade places for. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung recently hosted a regional meeting in Hanoi and he said that the forum (which was held three weeks ago) “was taking place against the backdrop of a regional and international situation that has seen rapid and complicated developments”. The global economic Reset has been completed, but it is much more critical now for ASEAN +3 to work together, anticipate and manage well through a constantly changing economic environment.

Mr. Vu Tien Loc, chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), inaugurating the conference.

We have over 1000 delegates from ASEAN member countries at this summit these two days, and many are distinguished business leaders of commerce and industry including the ASEAN Business Advisory Council. We need your advocacy and leadership to help further move ASEAN toward the Economic Integration by 2015. We need your dedication and support to help ASEAN region meet the challenges of globalization and competition around and outside of the region and join forces to put all our combined strengths as an economic region to deal with the new Global Reset World,to accomplish our growth vision of a single trade, investment and tourism destination in ASEAN.

The leaders of Tan Tao Group attending the conference

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Vietnam is a beautiful country with a rich history; Vietnamese people are hardworking and hospitable. With the integration of Vietnam into WTO and the world’s economy in 2007, Vietnam has madea number of notable achievements and one of them is : economic growth and stability, despite the recent world economic crisis. The fact that Vietnam was chosen for the first time to host ASEAN BIS, is the recognition by ASEAN and the world for the efforts of the government and Vietnam's businesses. On behalf of ASEAN Business Advisory Council, I would like to respectfully submit to the government of Vietnam and His Excellency, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, for the support and efforts in supporting the organization of ASEAN BIS 2010.
I like to close by wishing all of you an interesting and successful meeting here at ASEAN Business and investment Summit.
