Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment appoved Environmental Impact Assessment of Kien Luong 1 Coal-Fired Thermal Power Plant

On June 11, 2009, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment approved the decision No. 1072/QD-BTNMT on Environmental Impact Assessment of Kien Luong 1 Coal-Fired Thermal Power Plant with capacity of 1,200 MW.

According to the approval decision of the content of the Environmental Impact Assessment Report of Kien Luong 1 Coal-fired Thermal Power Plant with the capacity of 1,200 MW at Ba Hon hamlet, Kien Luong town, Kien Luong district, Kien Giang province of Tan Tao Energy Corporation, the Owner shall be responsible for implementing all the contents stated in the Environmental Impact Assessment Report and the obligatory requirements as follows:

- Application of suitable management and technical methods during the construction of the project works, ensuring the minimization of negative impacts to the water biological system in the Project area; collection and treatment of sludge, soil, stone removed from construction works and other wastes during the construction and operation of the Project, ensuring the environmental sanitation and safety requirements;

- During the construction of the project, Tan Tao Energy Corporation shall strictly implement designs, installation and operation of the boiler’s gas emission treatment system according to the Vietnam Environmental Standard and other related obligatory standards, regulations before discharging to the environment; Design, installation and operation of the system for receiving oil and other materials, fuels to supply to the Plant must be in accordance with the technical process ensuring the safety and causing no pollution to the surrounding environment. Management and control of the waste discharge of ships, boats entering and leaving the port must ensure no pollution to the water environment...

- Besides the Owner shall implement proper methods of getting cooling water; treating and discharging of water after cooling process to ensure that there is no negative impacts to the water biological system and the coastal water quality and strictly implement the current laws on licensing of exploration, exploitation, utilization of water resource, discharging of waste water into the water source... In case there is any change in the content of the approved Environmental Impact Assessment Report during the development and execution of the Project, Tan Tao Energy Corporation shall have to submit a report and only implement the change of the content after receiving the approval in writing from Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

 

The Kien Luong 1 thermal power plant project, belonging to the Master Plan 6, has been approved by the Prime Minister and is an important power supply project for the Southern region to meet the sharply increasing power demand in the process of national industrialization and modernization. The Ministry of Industry and Trade appreciates Tan Tao Energy Corp‘s basic design of the Kien Luong plant with its scientific and feasible construction plan undertaken by renowned domestic and international consultants. The Nam Du port is planned to have an annual handling capacity of 50 million tons of coal used in serving the power plants in the Southern region.
