The stage programs describe great deeds of the national hero Nguyen Trung Truc

After 3 months of rehearsal and thorough preparation, the 140 year anniversary of the death of national hero Nguyen Trung Truc was inaugurated in the evening of September 25 in the seaside city Rach Gia, Kien Giang province.

The Festival was celebrated to honor national hero Nguyen Trung Truc. In the morning September 26, the god welcoming and incense offering ceremony took place at the statue Nguyen Trung Truc. Many Central Party leaders and local people came to offer incense at the Nguyen Dinh Truc Pagoda to commemorate his great deeds during the long history of fighting against foreign invaders.

A prominent program during the festival is the “Weaving Ta Nien mat”. The 45 metre mat completed by Ta Nien people has become the Vietnamese longest mat.

Thousands of people across the country attended the ceremony to offer incense for the Hero. In order to serve the pilgrims, the Nguyen Trung Truc pagoda stocked up over 28 tons of food, sugar and vegetables for more than 1,200 people.

The Festival has really gone beyond the local area to become a typical cultural event in the Mekong Delta.
