Shift to East, fast connectivity and the environment seen as the key issues
The "power hungry" situation in the Northern region this summer has been posing a pressing issue for prevention and resolution of such serious shortage in other regions. What measures need to be carried out? There's no easy answer to this question. Lately, the People's Army Newspaper’s reporter visited the project site to learn more about Kien Luong Thermal Power Complex Project (Kien Giang) invested by Tan Tao Group with persistent and bold efforts, opening a new path to solve the actual "power hungry" problem.
Kien Luong Coal-Fired Power Complex – KLPP is a large thermal power project with a total investment of about US$ 6 - 6.2 billion, and Tan Tao Group-ITACO has been approved by the Prime Minister for investment of this project with a total capacity of 4,400 MW (Official Letter No. 1385/TTg-KTN dated August 25, 2008). It will be built in the EPC mode and will be entirely located in 265 hectares offshore area in Ba Hon Hamlet, Kien Luong town, Kien Luong district, Kien Giang province, 20 km away from Ha Tien town. This is one of the national key projects in the Power Plan VI.
The holding of the 2010 World Economic Forum on East Asia in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, was enormously significant for two key reasons. First, this was the first time in the nearly 20 years since this meeting was initially convened that it was taking place in one of Asia’s newly developing economies. On June 29, the initial signing ceremony for the Engineering – Procurement – Construction Contract of Kien Luong Coal-fired Power Plant Phase 1 (the Project) was organized in Beijing between Tan Tao Energy Corporation (TEC) under Tan Tao Group, the Project Owner, and China Huadian Engineering Co. Ltd. (CHEC) under China Huadian Corporation (CHD), the Contractor.
Morning, May 03, 2010 - At Tan Tao Group’s Office in Hanoi, the Group’s Chairwoman Dang Thi Hoang Yen chaired the meeting with foreign consultants to reach an agreement on the plan and schedule for completion of borrowing procedures to achieve financial close in the late third quarter of 2010 and to put the both generating units of Kien Luong 1 Power Complex into operation in early 2014.
Bid opening ceremony "EPC package for Kien Luong 1 Power Plant Project" has been held by ITA Group, at No.186 Le Lai, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, in the afternoon of August 3rd, 2009. This is the project of Kien Luong thermal power Center project
On July 27, Government Office made an official dispatch No. 5040/VPCP-KTTH writing that the Prime Minister agreed to lay down the Government's guarantees as a policy for the Kien Luong - 1 thermal power project – Kien Luong thermal power center.
On July 23, People's Committee of Kien Giang province issued the Investment Certificate for Tan Tao Investment & Industry Corporation (ITACO) to build Kien Luong thermal power center in Kien Giang province.
