Press conference held to introduce western Saigon River projects

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Planning and Architecture recently held a press conference on the planning of the projects in the western Saigon River areas.

In attendance were many leaders of local government, the head of Ho Chi Minh city Department of Planning and Architecture along with its members, and investors and specialists in construction and urban management.

A report was given by experts from the Japanese Nikken Sekkei Company. The report detailed the first research stage of the projects which will see construction commence in the complex of Ba Son, Tan Cang and Khanh Hoi.

The complex, which is divided into 9 zones, consists of office and commercial buildings, hotels, residential buildings, parks, and a green belt. Meanwhile, the future urban area is designed to develop in harmony with Thu Thiem innovated urban centre.

Not least, a subway system and many parking lots are also to be built in order to meet the residents’ travel needs. It is also hoped that this will eradicate traffic congestion.

The consultants emphasized in particular the extent of the works, the extent of planned land consumption and the value of the new traffic system. These projects have great potential for long-term development.

The ideas for the designs and plans of these projects originated in the models of some modern Japanese cities such as Shinjuku, Tokyo, and Osaka.

Nikken Sekkei, one of the two hundred leading developers in architectural design, engineering and construction, won the first prize in a recent contest entitled Ideas for architectural design of the existing urban centre along the Saigon River. The competition was organized by Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee and the Department of Planning & Architecture.
