State President Nguyen Minh Triet praises ‘Hoa Trang Nguyen’ students

On September 6, State President Nguyen Minh Triet met with 75 outstanding students who won first national prizes, international competitions for outstanding students, and who scored the highest marks in the university entrance exam 2008 at the Presidential Palace

On the same day, they also came and offered incense at the Temple of Literature, the first university in Vietnam and a symbol of Vietnamese traditional education.

The students represented nearly 1,500 nationwide who were given the ‘Hoa Trang Nguyen Award’ and for their outstanding performance in study. The ‘Hoa Trang Nguyen’ has been entitled to students with the best performance in high schools, or with first national prize, international medals and highest scores in the 2008 university entrance exam across Vietnam

During the meeting, the President said that despite difficult conditions for learning, students have made great efforts and showed huge determination to achieve outstanding performance in study and their Gold Medals from international contests have really brought in pride for the country.

The State President expressed his wish that the Hoa Trang Nguyen students, young talents of the country, will step up efforts to affirm Vietnam‘s will and intellectuality and contribute to the national development.

The Hoa Trang Nguyen Award was established by the Tan Tao Group in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Training, the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Popularization and Education, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, and the Vietnam Association of non-state universities and colleges.

At the awarding ceremony in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan said that the achievements of these winners should be highly regarded and respected.

The Tan Tao Group Chairwoman Dang Thi Hoang Yen said the Group would coordinate with Vietnam Television to organize a program that supports the students, to provide help under any circumstance, even when they study abroad.

She said the Group planned to choose 500 students out of the Group who showed strong academic performance and came from difficult family conditions, to give them scholarships to learn foreign languages so they may study at top world universities.

The Hoa Trang Nguyen Awarding Ceremonies will also be held on September 13-14 at the National University in HCM City, and on September 21 in Da Nang to honor 655 winners of Southern and Central Viet Nam.
