EPC bidding opening for 1,200 MW Kien Luong Thermo Power Center stage one

On December 10, 2008, the ITA Group held a conference at the Rex Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City to announce international EPC contractors interested in participating in competitive bidding for Kien Luong Power & Port Center in stage one which is invested and led by the ITA Group.

The conference was chaired by Mr. Dang Quang Hanh, President of the Tan Tao Energy Company.

The conference saw the attendance of international and Vietnamese consulting entities composed of Black & Veatch, Southern Engineering & Informatics Investment Corporation (S.E.I), FHDI, Power Engineering Consulting Company 2 (PECC2) and strategic partners International Power Corporation (U.K), Sojitz and Kyushu (Japan) and international EPC contractors.

This would become the largest thermal power plant project in Vietnam allocated to a private sector company and authorized by the Prime Minister with the total investment capital reaching over 6 billion U.S. dollars.

The bidding opening

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Dang Quang Hanh said: “With prompt and vigorous efforts over 18 months in working with the Power Engineering Consulting Company 2, Black & Veatch – a leading global leading consulting company, FHDI – one of fifty world ‘s top companies in port consulting and S.E.I – a leading industrial infrastructure design - planning in Vietnam and U.S Global Institute, ITA Group has carried out work needed to turn, step by step, Kien Luong Thermo Power Center into reality with the full approval of Prime Mister."

He also added: "We expect EPC contractors and ITA Group will soon initiate the construction of Kien Luong Thermo Power Center stage one by the end of 2009 and will generate power by 2013”

The consulting companies and strategic partners of ITA Group attends the conference.

The Kien Luong project belongs to the Six Power Master Plant and is approved by the Prime Minister with the Government credit guarantee and, is receiving popular support of local and central authorities.

The Kien Luong Thermo Power Center, which will generate 4,400 to 5,200 MW consists of three traditional coal-fired power plants is to be developed in three stages: 1,200 MW capacity Kien Luong 1 Thermal Power Plant, 1,200 to 2,000 MW capacity Kien Luong 2 Thermal Power Plant and 2,000 MW capacity Kien Luong 3 Thermal Power Plant.

The Power Center will cover a total site area of 555.9 hectares comprising of 203.5 hectares for the power plant, sea port surface area of 300.6 hectares and 51,8 hectares of cinder dump.
